Interview with author Amy Daws

1 – Have you always wanted to be a writer?

When I was younger I wanted to be a sitcom writer, so I was surprised to learn I had the ability to write a full length story!

2 – When you start a books series, do you know the couples who will appear in the following books in advance? Do you know what the plot will be?

I have a rough idea of the plot, but it always changes a lot as I write. And it depends who I write next with how the story flows and what secondary characters pop up for me.

3 – Did you write a book and decide not to publish it?

No, never! That’s far too much work. haha. If there was a reason not to publish it, then I would fix whatever was wrong with it and then publish!

4 – In the book That One Moment – You wrote about depression – why did you choose to write about such a complex issue?

Some of my characters have very deep, traumatic backstories, so it’s important for me that their character reflect what they would be like in dealing with that. And depression is a very common thing these days so I think it’s good to normalize it in romance novels.

5 – Is there a topic you will never write about? If so, what is it?

I could never write a historical romance. So much research that I do not have the patience for.

6 – How do you choose a book cover?

I design my own book covers in the United States, and I guess I just create what I like! Photo, graphics, layout…it’s a fun, creative process for me.

7 – Where did you get the inspiration for the stories?

I get inspiration from all over. For example, writing in a tire shop waiting room inspired my book, Wait With Me! That was an unexpected inspiring place.

8 – Who is your favorite couple you wrote about?

Tanner and Belle in Endurance have always had a special place in my heart. I love their crazy!

9 – How long does it take you to write one book?

That varies widely. I wrote Wait With Me in 13 days, but the book, Sweeper I’m working on is going to take me 4-5 months.

10 – What is your favorite genre to read?

I love British chick lit so very much. I have such an affection for British humor which is why I’ve based so many of my books in England.

11 – Who are your favorite writers?

I love Samantha Young, Elizabeth Young, Sophie Kinsella, and Mariana Zapata.

12 – If you could turn one of your books into a movie – which book would you choose?

Passionflix has optioned the film rights for Wait With Me so I  can’t wait to see what that will become, but ideally, I would LOVE my Harris Brothers Series to be a television series on HBO and feature all 4 of the brothers storylines at the same times for 7-10 seasons! haha. Dream big, right
