Jock Blocked – Pippa Grant

Reviews by Yael Waknin

Synopsis

She can’t let him score…

Call it superstition, but when a guy bats as hot as Brooks Elliott, you don’t mess with what’s working. And what’s working is him keeping his pants zipped and doing all of his scoring on the field.

So when I hear he’s planning to ditch his V-card now that he’s been traded to baseball’s lovable losers — aka my home team and my reason for living every March through October — I do what any rational, dedicated, obsessed fan would do.

I make a plan to stop him.

But the thing about stopping him is that it requires spending time with him.

Lots. And lots. And lots of time.

And the more time I spend with him, the more I like him. Not as the guy who’s going to help save my favorite team and finally bring home a championship ring, but as the guy who’s helping me in my quest to bring back the team’s old mascot. Who also loves making pancake and bacon sandwiches. And who would do almost anything for his love of the game.

But after all this time of jock-blocking him… do I even have a chance?

And if I do, are we both destined to a life of celibacy in the name of winning?

My review

I’ve read Pippa Grants books series I really liked – Bro Code (there are reviews of two books from the series America’s GeekheartFlirting with the Frenemy)

After that series, I found another good series of her – Happy Cat .

So you could say I liked her writing style, and I did not just interview her on my blog (click here for an interview with Pippa Grant)

I found this series (so far, there are three books here), and they are indirectly related to the Bro code series that I really liked!

This book is about Mackenzie; she’s Sarah’s best friend from the book America’s Geekheart, she’s a big fan of the Fireballs, the Cooper Valley baseball team, and she really believes in superstitions when it comes to the baseball team.

There are new managers for the team (their story – Trip and Layla, is the third book in the Bro code series), and they decided to bring in a player from New York who will try to pick up the team that usually only loses.

The player is Brooks Elliott, and he is a virgin. Yes, he’s a 30-year-old man, and he’s a virgin. Why? Because it turns out that the whole baseball world very much believes in superstitions, and every time he tried to get into bed with someone, he hit awful in the games that followed.

Mackenzie knows that. Somehow. And she happens to see him trying to hit on someone, and from there, it only gets worse…. for the better!

This is the second time I have read a book from the genre that the male is the virgin and not the woman, and believe me; it is no less sexy and beautiful.

At first, Brooks is really angry at Mackney, and it also does not help his bad temper with his replacement from New York (his home court) and the fact that he is new to Cooper Valley. He wants to tease her a bit so she understands the hint and walks away, but as a result, they spend more and more time together.

Mackenzie is one of the craziest, funniest, most mischievous, energetic characters I’ve ever read. She was such an energy bomb! In everything, she did she was full of power, emotion, and passion. It was crazy and amusing.

Brooks is a 30-year-old virgin (Shock, I know), but he is not a fool. He’s a handsome baseball player with a great sense of humor and a crazy family, almost like Mackenzie or maybe even more.

Maybe because this time our hero is the virgin and not the heroine, something in this book was so sensitive and special. It had crazy characters, good friendships, crazy chemistry, and a mascot named Meatballs running away from the stadium! There were so many little things here that were different from any cliché in the genre that it was impossible not to love and appreciate it.

When I interviewed the writers, I asked them which character they liked best of all they had written – and now I understand how unfair it is. Because lately I have read so many good books and every time again I am sure that this is my favorite couple and this book also came as a surprise to me! I did not think I would love this couple so much. I thought Beck and Sarah from America’s Geekheart would be my favorite couple in this series forever, but now I have Brooks and Mackenzie, and I’m in love again!

So if you have not understood by now, here I say – go and read the book. This book is charming and special.
