Always Only You – Chloe Liese

Reviews by Yael Waknin

Synopsis

Get ready for an emotional ride filled with laughter, longing, and a sweet slow-burn in this sports romance about love’s power not in spite of difference, but because of it.

Ren

The moment I met her, I knew Frankie Zeferino was someone worth waiting for. Deadpan delivery, secret heart of gold, and a rare one-dimpled smile that makes my knees weak, Frankie has been forbidden since the day she and I became coworkers, meaning waiting has been the name of my game—besides, hockey, that is.

I’m a player on the team, she’s on staff, and as long as we work together, dating is off-limits. But patience has always been my virtue. Frankie won’t be here forever—she’s headed for bigger, better things. I just hope that when she leaves the team and I tell her how I feel, she won’t want to leave me behind, too.

Frankie

I’ve had a problem at work since the day Ren Bergman joined the team: a six foot three hunk of happy with a sunshine smile. I’m a grumbly grump and his ridiculously good nature drives me nuts, but even I can’t entirely ignore that hot tamale of a ginger with icy eyes, the perfect playoff beard, and a body built for sin that he’s annoyingly modest about.

Before I got wise, I would have tripped over myself to get a guy like Ren, but with my diagnosis, I’ve learned what I am to most people in my life—a problem, not a person. Now, opening my heart to anyone, no matter how sweet, is the last thing I’m prepared to do.

My review

This is the second book in the Bergman Brothers series. This book is about Ren, Ryder’s brother from the previous book. We knew him in the book – Only When It’s Us, and now we get into his story.

To his and Frankie’s beautiful story.

So here the writer has already broken the conventions of the genre – he, Ren, our hero – he is the smiling, optimistic, sunshine and she, Frankie is grumpy and gloomy who wears only black.

Confused? don’t be!

The writer brought us such complex characters here. Full of surprises and feelings that really but really warmed my heart. I’ve read their inner monologues and simply – Swoon!

Their connection is not easy at all and not the most normal, but you see that there is so much under the surface even before their physical contact. See that there is an emotional connection between them that is simply remarkable.

So if I thought I loved Ryder from the previous book (and I swear, I loved Ryder!) But Ren is a perfect gem. He has no competitors. He is one of the special and sensitive characters I have read.

He’s not the typical macho and alpha-like in all the books, and yes, I love the alpha in the books, but Ren brings something else no less good.

At the same time, there is a situation where there are some unnecessary parts in the book that might have been possible to shorten the book, but because the characters were so good and the story itself was so beautiful – it did not ruin it.

I was so-so this with Frankie toward the end (the expected conflict), and it’s a bit annoying because I loved her very much throughout the book. But Ren, Ren was perfect and remained perfect.

Do not wait – read this book!
